Dear Neighbours,

Thanks to everyone who braved the grassy verge.

The key items discussed included:

1)    Communes: the grace period ended on 30 June 2010 and only 10 of the Westdene communes on the list of over 80 applied for approval. The remaining communes are considered illegal. Councillor Cindy Grobbelaar will meet the council to ask that they enforce these bylaws.

2)    Trees: there is a mould infecting trees in Westdene. City Parks are trying to save infected trees but in cases where it has gone too far the entire tree has to be removed and then replaced by 3 new trees.  Please check your trees and contact City Parks if you notice a problem.

3)    Westdene Dam: a full planning meeting for the Westdene Dam will be convened in the next month or so. Chantelle will circulate a meeting notice and we will ask for it to be published in the NMT.

4)    Thornton road: a group will be convened to discuss improvements to Thornton Road.

5)    Other Green Areas and the Recreation Center: neighbours to green areas will undertake activities to improve the green areas and notices will be circulated inviting residents to clean-up and planting days as they are organised.

6)    18 July Nelson Mandela Day: on this Sunday the Seymour, Monmouth, Tenby South residents will spend their 67 minutes cleaning and gardening the streets of this block from about 11h00. Please join in and think of a Mandela day volunteer action you can do in service to your community. Details to follow.

Many thanks and enjoy the last week of the soccer.

Stay warm and safe,

Melinda
